Our Story

WELCOME, MY NAME IS ORJONA  

I am the founder of Frutastic, and this was my fascinating journey.

Being born in Albania I moved to Belgium in 2010. Since many years I work in the catering sector, mainly in restaurants. Now I have joined the team of my sister’s Italian restaurant 'Piccola Italia' in Roeselare.

In the restaurants I have worked in over the years, I have developed a specialty in making cocktails and other drinks. My experience has taught me that the ideal drink requires the perfect garnish. I was introduced to freeze-dried fruit by my husband, who works in the nutrition field as well. I quickly realized that the key to making my beverages flawless was to add freeze-dried fruit. They improve my cocktails in a matter of seconds because they save time and reduce waste, and because they don't contain any moisture, their natural taste instantly infiltrates the beverage!

Freeze-drying combines the best of food processing standards to preserve and retain organoleptic and nutritional characteristics in food. Through deep freezing followed by sublimation via controlled vacuum, the freeze-drying process removes 98% of the water content of food while leaving nutrients intact.

Our freeze-drying process is 100% natural. It uses no artificial ingredients, sugars, flavoring, color or preservatives, so 100% pure fruit. It also keeps the original shape and visual appeal of the fruit.

Since most of the water content is removed, freeze-dried foods weigh approximately 10% of their original wet-weight, generating efficiencies in shipping and handling.

Most of the freeze-dried fruit in the European market is produced from frozen fruit, in order to maximize the natural flavour. Our Frutastic citrus slices are made from fresh fruit with our IFS certified production partner.

PACKED LOCALLY IN A SOCIAL WORK FACILITY

We have chosen to pack our Frutastic products at Sowepo, a social work facility near our storage facility in Vichte, Belgium. Sowepo not only holds an IFS food quality accreditation but also employs individuals who face difficulties in the conventional labor market. Supporting the social economy is an important value for us. We look forward to growing Frutastic in partnership with them in the coming years.
